LCD Battery Computer
How much residual charge does my board battery
have? Is the battery state really “Full”? Why is energy
taken from the battery, although the consumers have been switched-off?
The VOTRONIC LCD battery computer and the VOTRONIC LCD KapaControl
Digital 2 give the answer to these questions - exactly to an ampere-hour
(Ah). At the touch of a button, they inform comprehensively of
the actual charging state of the battery. They are suitable for
all battery types (acid, gel, AGM) with 12 V and 24 V battery
voltage, and they have a current consumption of only 9 mA.
Since the units shall record all battery activities,
they are permanently in contact with „their“ battery.
The microprocessor control accurately counts each ampere-hour
(Ah) of capacity during charging and discharging. Age of the battery,
battery size, self-discharge, battery load etc. are considered
by means of programmed characteristic diagrams. Even the smallest
leakage current is detected and recorded by the units. The result
is a correct indication of the capacity (Ah) being still available
in the battery (residual charge), such as it is known from a fuel
gauge. This value is indicated on a large LCD display,
which can be read conveniently even from a distance. Even If the
discharge is only below 20%, the display will be flashing to warn
of an empty battery and to avoid battery damage by total discharge.
When recharging the battery, the full charging state will be recognized
automatically.
The delivered cable being ready for connection is used to connect
the units to a robust precision measuring resistor (shunt), which
is connected to the negative pole of the battery and which measures
the actual voltage and the instantaneous current rate. The residual
capacity of the battery is then calculated from the measured values
and the battery size. The nominal capacity of the battery (value
at 20 hours discharge) has to be set once at the unit. Matching
to the VOTRONIC modular system, appearance and mechanics (identical
height) of the units are adapted to the other display modules.
The small dimensions of the front panel and the particularly small
mounting depth of only 18 mm allow an installation at almost any
location. Attention: The units are adapted to the measuring shunts
being included in the delivery. They cannot be operated in connection
with other measuring shunts or exchanged by each other!

Functions: LCD Battery Computer
a Battery voltage 7 to 32 V (Volts)
Allows drawing conclusions to the battery behaviour in case of
variations in load and serves as operational check for the charger,
the solar system, the dynamo etc. Flashing warning signal in case
of overvoltage.
b Battery current (+ = charge
/ - = discharge) +/-0 to max. 1200/1800 A (amperes, depending
on the type). Control of the discharge current rates (load) by
the consumers being indicated by the sign “-“. Also
the charging current rates will be displayed. They can be identified
by an arrow symbol.
c Battery capacity (residual charge)
from 0 Ah (empty) to nominal capacity (full), max. 1500 Ah.
